Using a pulley during construction week in preschool

During construction week in the preschool classroom, the students learned and experienced what a pulley is. We tied a string around the handle of the tool box. (That was the best thing with the sturdiest handle we had to use but you could also use a sturdy bucket with a handle.)

We put the box on the other side of our half wall with the string hanging over on our side of the wall. The students worked and pulled until the box came up to the top of the wall for them to reach it.

That is so clever! What a great way to teach about pulleys and motion.

Thanks for commenting. The students had fun with this activity. It’s not a normal activity for preschoolers, always something different going on in my class. :)

I can see doing this with my kids at home. Maybe use the couch? Very cool idea!

Yes, the couch will work. Great idea. And the kids will understand a pulley system from this hands-on activity. Thank you for commenting and have fun.
