Preschool Memory game

In my early childhood classroom, we often play a memory game. This game is different from the box memory games with cards that students turn over right side up to see if they get a match.

For this game we put several different objects out on the floor. The students all cover their eyes. It works well to have them put their hands over their eyes and then put their faces down on the floor. It even helps to tuck their heads in their arms. That prevents squinting eyes from peeking.

Once all eyes are closed and hidden, the teacher takes away one of the objects. Then the students can look and guess which object is missing. They love this game.

Teachers can make the game more difficult by using objects of all the same color: all blue objects. That way they must pay careful attention to the objects and decide which is missing, not just the blue one.

Another variation to this game is to have one student step out of the room or out of sight. Then the remaining students guess which friend is missing.

During center play, I recently saw some students playing this memory game on their own. Check out the picture:

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
