This week’s theme in my early childhood classroom is Mr. Yuk. Who is Mr. Yuk? What is Mr. Yuk?
Mr. Yuk is this green face with his tongue sticking out of his mouth to remind us (especially young children) of poisons.
Here is a great homework assignment for early childhood students during Mr. Yuk week and to involve parents in the theme as well:
Send home 3-4 green Mr. Yuk stickers. Have children and families look around their homes for poisons: bleach, soap, laundry detergent, bug sprays, hair spray bottles, make-up, plant leaves, oils and gasoline, basically anything that is harmful if put in the mouth or swallowed.
Have children and families place the stickers on the poison bottles/containers. Take pictures of the items with the stickers on them. Print out the pictures and return to school for a Mr. Yuk classroom display.
This is a great assignment for involving families in their child’s classroom themes and families will become aware of poisons in their homes.
You can receive free Mr. Yuk stickers by ‘liking’ Mr. Yuk on Facebook and sending a stamped self-addressed envelope to the mailing address listed on the page.
Even add this video to your Mr. Yuk lesson plan: Stop! Ask First
This is a great theme for any early childhood learning center: private, corporate, or faith-based. Be sure to include Mr. Yuk in your yearly lesson plans.
