In a classroom full of 3-4 year olds, there are bound to be accidents and injuries. These injuries don’t happen on purpose. They happen when there are too many students in one learning center or they’re all trying to do the same activity or they’re all trying to be first in line. They’re early childhood students. They’re going to get in one another’s way. Accidents happen; injuries happen. We determine who was injured, how she was injured, what to do about the injury, then we write up the incident report, call the parent, and explain what we will do to prevent future injuries. The amazing question I always get is “what are we going to do if this happens again?” Easy answer — we will do all we can to prevent injuries and accidents from happening. The truth is they are going to happen. That’s life.
