Dominoes

Do you remember lining dominoes up one behind the other, then pushing the first one over making it fall into the next one and the next one and the next one and on and on and on until all the dominoes have fallen over in a line?

Of course, we’ve all played that game. And we try to see how creative we can be in designing the line of dominoes: straight, curvy. The more twists and turns in the line, the more fun it is to watch the dominoes fall.

Life can be like a line of dominoes. Each event in our lives is a domino, standing up straight and tall. There may be 2 or 3 dominoes (events)Â in a straight row then one makes a slight curve to the right or left. The dominoes are all in a line but nothing happens until that first one is pushed over. Then, at that first nudge, the first domino falls over, hits the second one which hits the third one which hits the fourth one and so on…until all the dominoes have fallen over in the line. One event in our lives happens because of other events.

Sometimes the dominoes don’t fall over exactly as the design was laid out. If a curve is too sharp to the left or right, one domino might not hit the next one correctly and it won’t fall over, therefore, pausing the falling pattern. Bump that next domino and it all begins again.

If we put our final destination domino (event) at the end of the line and design our other events leading up to that one, then we will eventually make it to where we want to go. But we must go through each domino (event) to get to the desired end.

Most importantly, we must allow God to be our domino designer. He knows the domino (event) line for us. If we allow God to place each domino in the line for us and give that first nudge, then each domino will fall in His design. However, if we curve one domino a little too far to the left or right, then we must allow God to nudge the next one and get us back on His designed line (path).

Wow. It's Quiet Here...
