Preschoolers can eat!

We were just talking at work (at an early childhood center) about how hungry preschoolers are at lunch time. The food manager measures portions of food for the number of students in attendance for the day and gives a little extra food as well. At lunch time, we serve the food but the kids are hungry. They can pack the food away, especially if it is something they really like to eat!

Obesity is a problem with a lot of people. It starts with the very young. Many factors are involved with the obesity problem. We eat too fast. We eat too much. We eat too much of one or two food groups instead of eating a balanced meal of foods from each food group. Read this article on obese 4 year olds. Shocking to read which people group has the highest number of obese preschoolers.

Be adventurous

Judges 18, The Message… “The Danites sent out five robust warriors from Zorah and Eshtaol to look over the land and see what was out there suitable for their families. They said, ‘Go and explore the land.’”

We’re instructed to go on adventures and explore. Get out there. Enjoy the scenery. Make memories and stories.

Easter idea

For a creative approach to teaching the Resurrection at Easter, try making Resurrection rolls. See recipe below…

Ingredients:
1 can refrigerated crescent roll dough
Large marshmallows
Melted butter
Cinnamon
Sugar
Directions:
Give each person one triangle shaped section of crescent roll. This represents the tomb.
Each person takes one marshmallow, which represents the body of Christ.
Dip the marshmallow in the butter and roll in cinnamon and sugar mixture. This represents the oils and spices the body was anointed with upon burial.
Lay the marshmallow on the dough and carefully wrap it around the marshmallow.
Make sure all seams are pinched together well. (Otherwise the marshmallow will “ooze” out of the seams)
Bake according to package directions.
Cool.
Break open the tomb and the body of Christ is no longer there!!
Celebrate God’s love!

Happy Resurrection Day!

New generation jobs

Many students who will be graduating this semester are finding it more difficult to land that perfect dream job. Many are settling for that less than prize-winning position. Read on here…

Faster messages, please

For today’s generations, they want to retrieve their voicemail messages faster. They have little time to sit and listen through answering machines and voicemail systems. It is easier and faster to get email and text messages. Read this article on getting a faster message.

Keep walkin’

In Joshua 6, (The Message) Joshua and the Israelites had strict orders to march around the city of Jericho everyday for 6 days and march around 7 times on the seventh day. Those daily walks would cause the walls of Jericho to fall down and allow the people to walk straight through on the way to the Promised Land. The best visual account of this story is the early VeggieTales “Josh and the Big Wall.” Phil Vischer did a fabulous job of re-telling that story.

Do you think all those Israelites understood what they were doing or why they were doing such weird instructions? No, they probably all didn’t understand it, but they couldn’t talk about it. Joshua told them? –”Don’t shout. In fact, don’t even speak–not so much as a whisper until you hear me say, ‘Shout!’–then shout away.”

Now usually when we don’t understand a task, we are trained to ask for clarification. Then if we agree with the reasons behind that task, we proceed. If we still think the task is weird, then we don’t do our best at it, if at all.

Imagine the faith involved with Joshua and the Israelites. They didn’t ask questions. They marched each day, blowing the trumpets, carrying the Chest of God, until the walls fell down when they were free to proceed on their journey.

God, give us the faith and understanding to keep walkin’ toward Your goal.
