During Letter week, the preschool students enjoyed a trip down the Yellow Brick Road.
We took the concept from the Wizard of Oz classic movie and drew out squares on a long piece of yellow bulletin board paper. We wrote each letter of the alphabet in each of the squares on the paper. We made it a little tricky though by not putting the letters in the exact order one right after the other. The students had to look for the next letter carefully as it may have been behind them or to the left or to the right of them.
They followed each square on the yellow brick until they were able to go from A all the way to Z in order. They were very encouraging to others as they sat on the side of the road and helped their friends know where the next letter was and what it looked like if they were stumped.

Adorable idea! I love the way all the children took part – helping a friend on the “road!” Renee
Yes. This was a fun activity and a way to get the students moving and not just sitting at a table to work on letter identification. They were great helpers and supporters for their friends as well.
How fun, and I love the bright yellow color!
Yes, this is a fun learning activity, and the students end up helping one another with letter identification. So fun to see them as peer teachers.
What a fun idea! Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things Blog Hop Linky Party xo
Thank you for commenting. It was exciting to see the students helping one another with letter identification.
We are working on numbers at my house. I bet this would be great for number work too.
