A little kindness

This week’s episode of CSI:NY showed a scene with Detective Mac Taylor showing a small act of kindness to a stranger in his favorite deli. The deli was crowded with many other people all grabbing for numbers, hoping to be the next customer on call. One woman looks like she has had a rough day and is very frustrated at the rude appearances of the other customers. Mac gets his sandwich order (his usual sandwich) and as he is leaving to go investigate the main story line of this week’s episode, he gives the woman the next number. He told her he learned to take two numbers when the deli is that crowded.

The woman leaves Mac a note on the back of the deli menu to say thank you and how much she appreciated his kindness in her state of frustration –to the point that she is ready to leave the city. With his act of kindness, she is ready to hang in there and give the city another try.

We never know what impact we will have on who we meet each day. Some call these moments ‘divine appointments.’ God puts us in places and situations where we can make a difference. May we brighten someone’s day — even if it’s only with a smile.
