The story of Noah and the ark is found in Genesis 6. This is a very familiar story to almost everyone and a very popular story for children’s classes.
Noah was given very specific instructions on how to build a big boat to save him and his family from the flood that God was going to send to destroy the earth. “People on the earth did what God said was evil, and violence was everywhere” (verse 11).
God told Noah how to build the boat: how big, how long, how wide, how high, to make an opening around the top, put a door on the side, make upper, middle, and lower decks. But what had God NOT instructed to be included on this boat?
You got it — a rudder. There was no way to steer this boat. God was going to steer this boat. God was going to send this boat in the direction He wanted it to go. God was in charge of this boat.
Is God in charge of your boat? Is God your rudder? Does God steer your life? Does God guide you in the direction He wants you to go? Or do you try to steer your own boat only to find out that God is trying to steer, too? Let God do the steering and guiding. Where God guides, He provides.
