It’s a Google world

I’ve heard one of my favorite authors, Len Sweet, use the phrase “It’s a Google world” many times. It definitely is a tech world. I have early childhood students in my classroom playing and working in the art center cutting paper and drawing pictures on paper. They fold the paper in half and stand one end up and say “look at my computer.”

To add to this Google world thought, I recently read a blog post describing how the church is like a rotary-dial phone in an iPhone world.

2009 inauguration

Almost everyone else has blogged about the 2009 inauguration of Barak Obama and Joe Biden, but no one else has this story. Read on…

In my 3-4 year old early childhood class yesterday we looked at a picture of the White House displayed on the side of one of the shelves in the classroom. We talked about the events in Washington, D.C., yesterday and that a new president would soon move into the White House. When asked the new president’s name who will now live there, one 3 year old friend quickly said “James Bond.”

Now how was I supposed to go on with the circle time current event discussion after that?

Another friend, a 4 year old, knew right away that wasn’t the correct answer and she said “Barak Obama.” Whew! Glad that was straightened out.

one reason why we do it

We have a small church, but when we look at the statistics of many churches, we aren’t that much smaller than the average church and we aren’t that much smaller than other churches in Delaware. Things just seem smaller when attendance is irregular, enthusiasm is dragging, and the finances are low.

Last night was one of the pictures of why we continue to meet as a Faith family …at least in children’s worship. I saw enthusiasm.

One friend faithfully attends with her 2 boys, ages 9 and 5. The 5 year old didn’t come last night because he was sick …which is understandable since it was 13 degrees outside last night! My friend said she was getting ready to leave her house to go to church and walked through the house with her Bible. The little boy said, “Mom, are you getting ready to go to church?” She told him yes. His reply was, “I guess I can’t go tonight since I’m here sick on the couch.” Of course, reading these words doesn’t help us hear the sadness in the voice, but the boy was truly sad that he would miss church.

That is why we do it …if there are 2000 kids or 2 kids …at least one of those kids is hearing the message and experiencing Jesus. Keep leading and teaching.

The Go ahead

It is fascinating how God works to prepare the way for us. We can’t see the road ahead but He does. We can only see the dark road as far ahead as the car headlights shine. We keep going, we see further and further along the road. God has already seen the road for us; He planned the road. He sent someone or something on ahead to prepare the road for us.

God sent John the Baptist to prepare the way for Jesus. God sent Joseph to Egypt to prepare the way for his brothers and his family.

God prepares the way for us each day. Which way do we go?

God still provides

Genesis 3 is the story of Adam and Eve disobeying God when they chose to eat of the fruit of the tree they were forbidden by God to eat. The serpent told them they would be as wise as God if they ate that fruit; however, the knowledge they obtained wasn’t the kind of knowledge they were seeking. They realized their nakedness.

God punished them for their disobedience but He didn’t leave them. He still provided for them by making them clothing and dressing them. They still had everything they needed even though they had to work (and work hard) for it.

God still guides and provides for each of us even though we have to work hard for things as well.
